Equi-BuildER FAQ
What is Gamma Oryzanol?
Gamma Oryzanol is a naturally occurring plant sterol and ferulic acid ester (fat-like substance with steroid-like effects). The principle source of gamma oryzanol is in rice bran oil, but it can also be found in corn and barley oils. Rice bran, discovered by the Japanese, is the outer husk of the rice kernel which is removed during the processing of white rice.
What are the effects of Gamma Oryzanol?
The theory behind Gamma oryzanol supplementation, the active ingredient in Equi-BuildER, is the effect it has on the body’s hormonal system, specifically the ability to potentially influence testosterone levels, or muscle building hormones.
Gamma oryzanol is also thought to stimulate the hypothalamus to secrete Growth Hormone Releasing Hormone, which in turn stimulates the release of Human Growth Hormone. This also aids with muscle building. The properties of gamma oryzanol actually mimic that of an anabolic hormone!
Can my horse experience the same benefits by eating a diet high in rice bran?*
Actually, no. Gamma oryzanol is not water-soluble plant sterol. Therefore, the body will absorb only a small amount of the active ingredient if fed in a powdered form. However, fed in a soluble base of corn oil, the body can experience maximum absorption. However, to get enough gamma oryzanol to reach recommended therapeutic dosages, you will need to take supplements.
Some Additional Claims of Gamma Oryzanol
- May have an effect on the release of endorphins, which are the “feel good” or pain relieving chemicals released into the body during exercise. These endorphins also decrease the feeling of fatigue, which can allow the horse to train longer without the feeling of exhaustion.
- May reduce inflammation or irrigation of the inner lining of the stomach.
- May assist in decreasing lactic acid
- Could positively effect mental functioning by reducing stress and nerves
- Aids in weight maintenance in circumstances where the horse would normally lose weight.
- Promotes healthy lean muscle tissue
- Aids in overall condition and coat appearance
- Has a potential effect on digestion and stomach ulceration and gastritis
